Xbox/Wii/Playstation

In the current gaming world, three consoles dominate the market and offer a wealth of great gaming opportunities. The console giants currently battling for domination are the Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii.

Xbox 360: The Xbox is currently perceived to be the most popular console on the market. This system introduced the world to what exactly a next gen console was capable of, and brought with it a wealth of new fucntions. Amongst these is Xbox Live, an online function that allows players to download classic games, purchase downloadable content, and most importantly- online play.  This has since been imitated by both Sony(Playstation Network) and Nintendo(WiiWare, Virtual Console, and Nintendo Wi-fi Connection). Xbox Live is generally seen to be superior to its counterparts, offering a wider range of online games, and securing downloadable content exclusive for the Xbox.

Wii: The Nintendo Wii is the result of a refreshingly new perspective on the gaming market. Spurning graphics dominance, Nintendo instead chose  to create a console that was truly unique. The result is a system which truly integrates the player into the games they play.

The Wii brought a whole new ball game to the gaming world, introducing a new style of interactive play that proved hugely popular amongst fans. The console also brought back classics from earlier systems and added the distinctive Wii touch. Games such as Wii Sports and Wii Fit revolutionised the market, giving players the opportunity to expand their gaming itinery.

The Wii has gained most popularity through being a 'party console', a great interactive experience that brings together friends and family, introducing gaming to those that might never have previously considered it. At the same time, this notion is also what can bring the Wii down in the eyes of certain gamers, viewing the console as something of a novelty item used for throwaway fun rather than serious gaming.

Playstation 3: It is generally agreed that the Playstation 3 got off to a poor start with fans. A bizarre and abstract marketing campaign did little to help a system that opened with no impressive gaming gambits. However, it is also known that the Playstation 3 is probably the most technically adept out of the consoles, and with more and more impressive and well known titles appearing, Playstation 3 is rising to the challenge.

Each PS3 contains a built-in Cell Processor at 3.2 Gigahertz. It has the potential to process information at a speed unlike any other console. Not only that, but the PS3's Blu-ray discs can hold up to 50 GB. That means it's game's also have the potential to contain almost four times more information than any other console's discs.

The console also features a Blu Ray player, the future of home entertainment. Blu Ray DVDs offer movies in high definition, allowing for a clearer picture quality and more impressive sound. As with the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 is best used in conjunction with a HD tv in order to glean the best possible performance. Games will appear so much better when viewed through HD.

So there are the facts. Each console is highly popular and impressive in their own right. The trick here is finding the system which best suits you, and its worth looking each before you commit to a choice!
